History of the Mexican Baja Hoodie
When we first came up with the idea of the classic striped baja hoodies years ago, we wanted to combine the styles of baja california with the materials used deep in Mexico. We found a factory that made "jergas" which are rags used for cleaning kitchens typically. These jergas were always striped and came in a variety of colors so we thought it would be a perfect way to create a cool hoodie with a California surfer vibe. We follow 2 rules for all bajas, the stripes on the body must always be vertical and the stripes on the kangaroo pocket, the neck section and sleeves must always be horizontal.
Since jergas were made from recycled yarns, we automatically had a product that was eco friendly making the baja hoodie a staple in the Hippies community.
Now you can see them all over the world worn by all people. Some people call them drug rugs or stoner jackets because the cheap ones sold in gas station and on amazon are worn heavily by that demographic. Then you have high end 100% cotton woven baja hoodies that are more expensive and have stretch to them that have more of a Laguna beach vibe.
